The vital objective of ‘Parent-Teacher Meeting(PTM)’ is to provide a structured opportunity for parents and teachersto share information about the student's academic progress, behaviour, andoverall development. In order to support the very objective of sharing academicprograms and policies, the Department of Commerce organized ‘PTM’ on 11th ofOctober, 2025 for B. Com-I, III semesters and B.Com- III year studentsrespectively in their classrooms.

Every parent of the ward attended on the meeting wasinformed about the student’s performance in the recent ‘Unit-Test-I’ conductedas part of the ‘Continuous Internal Assessmet’ (CIA), attendance ratio anddiscussed the qualitative abilities of their children in the classroom. Mr.Vaibhav Shrivastava, Head of the Department of Commerce emphasized on theimportance of sharing necessary information about the college, system ofexaminations under NEP-2020 and the objective of the ‘Parent-Teacher meeting’.Class In-Charges of the respective courses discussed with the parents about the‘Declaration form’ of attendance of the ward as per norms of the university.They were also explained about the ways to progress and attempt the upcomingpre-semester and final semester examinations. The ‘Parent-Teacher Meeting’concluded successfully and the students who are the immediate stakeholders ofthe institute along with their Parents benefited by the session.


Career-oriented courses in Business andCommerce are essential for B.Com students as they bridge the gap betweenacademic theory and practical industry demands. In alignment with this vision,the Department of Commerce organized a Guest Lecture on “Career Aspects in the Design Industry” in collaboration with the ‘Space Institute of Design andInnovation’ (SIDI). The session was conducted by Mr. Kapil Kelkar, Principal of SIDI Design Institute, Raipur.  Mr.Kelkar delivered his session in two segments. In the first part, he guided students on how to identify and nurture their natural abilities and skills, Thesecond part was a hands-on workshop, where participants were encouraged to conceptualize and illustrate their ideas on paper. Mr. Kelkar reviewed the creative outputs and provided constructive feedback, continuing his lecture with insights on how to enhance one’s creative potential and align it with career specialization.

A large number of students from B.Com-I & II Semesters, B.Com-III Yearand M.Com-I & III Semesters actively participated and benefitted from thesession. The Guest Lecture concluded successfully with a heartfelt ‘Vote ofThanks’ delivered by Dr. Neetu Gupta, Assistant Professor. Faculty members from the Commerce Department were also present and contributed to the smooth execution of the event.

The Innovative Business Idea and Entrepreneurship Competition was organized to encourage creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking among participants. The objectives of the competition were to provide a platform for young innovators to showcase their business ideas, develop entrepreneurial skills, and gain exposure to real-world business challenges.To promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students/participants. To identify feasible and scalable business ideas. To provide mentoring and guidance from industry experts. To foster a spirit of teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving.

The competition was conducted in the following phases:

Participants submitted summaries of their business ideas, Shortlisting of the most innovative and practical ideas. Selected teams presented their business models using PowerPoint, prototypes, or demonstrations. Judges interacted with participants and provided feedback. Winners were chosen based on innovation, feasibility, sustainability, and presentation skills.AI-based health monitoring app .Clothing made from recycled materials. Smart irrigation and crop monitoring systems. Participants developed confidence in pitching their ideas. Exposure to entrepreneurship concepts such as market research, business models, and financial planning. Networking opportunities with mentors and industry experts. Winning teams received recognition, prizes, and opportunities for incubation support.

 

The Innovative Business Idea and Entrepreneurship Competition successfully fostered creativity, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit among participants. It highlighted the potential of youth-led innovations to address real-world challenges. The event not only recognized the best ideas but also inspired participants to refine and pursue their entrepreneurial journey.

Using ‘Artificial Intelligence’ (AI)is essential now-a-days because it drives automation and efficiency, liberatinghumans from repetitive tasks to focus on more complex and creative works. Byhighlighting the advantages and drawbacks of the prominent buzzword, ‘AI’, theDepartment of Commerce took an opportunity to conduct a debate – ‘The NextGreat Idea: Will it be a Human Made or AI Made?’ to facilitate students tobroaden their views on the same. The competition was organized on 23rdof August, 2025.

Two studentgroups were formed to debate on the ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and the future ofinnovation. The team arguing in favour of AI contended that its unparalleledprocessing power and ability to analyze vast data sets would lead tobreakthroughs far beyond human capability. On the other hand, the second teamwhich is the opposing group emphasized that true creativity, emotion, andethical reasoning are uniquely human traits that cannot be replicated orreplaced by algorithms. This competition was anchored by Mr. Singamala VamseeKrishna, Assistant Professor of the Department along with all other facultymembers.

The debate was alively exchange of ideas, with students presenting compelling arguments forboth sides of the complex issue. Both teams acknowledged the role of the other,but disagreed on who would hold the ultimate creative authority. At theconclusion of the event, two students from each team were recognized for theirwell-articulated points and composed delivery. The debate offered athought-provoking look into the evolving relationship between human ingenuityand artificial intelligence. The event was successfully concluded and proved tobe highly beneficial for the large number of students who participated.


The Department of Commerce at St. Vincent Pallotti College, Raipur, organized an interactive ice-breaking activity “FunFinity Fiesta” focused on facilitating a team-building session for all commerce students on 8th of August, 2025 in the seminar hall at 12:00 noon. The event was to cater the innate and natural abilities of the students on how an individual performs in a team by enhancing his talent in terms of timing and decision making beyond academic preparedness. The activity commenced with an introductory and motivating speech by the Head of the Department, Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava who elaborated the intention and purpose of the activity and encouraged them to participate and find out their inner abilities. 

This extra-curricular activity aimed at three objectives. To facilitate the ‘Personal Growth and Self-Discovery’ was the first one in which the participants tried to identify their level of grasping and timing sense. ‘Leadership and Team-Work Development’ was another objective by which the students could learn and respond in an inclusive environment. Participation in ‘Extra-Curricular Activities’ (ECAs) has been linked to better academic performance, because of which ‘Improved Academic Performance’ was also the main objective of this activity. 

“FunFinity Fiesta” has witnessed the participation of students in large number by the commerce department. We have conducted thee type of activities. (i) Find and Tune (ii) Team Lead (iii) The perfect Time-Line. This event certainly Boosted Confidence & Self-Esteem as well as it has Strengthened Collaboration & Teamwork.

Dr. Neetu Gupta, Assistant Professor of the Department of Commerce has actively engaged and executed throughout the event supported by all other members of the department. Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, HoD of Commerce appreciated the team and encouraged the participants who were enthusiastically involved in all the activities of the event. The “FunFinity Fiesta” was concluded successfully and the students were benefitted in numerous ways.


“The Nuances of Goods and Service Tax Return Filing” on 19th, July, 2025 in the Class Room No. 34, withthe digital aid, focused on ‘Indian Tax Regime’ by Mr. Akash Goenka, AssistantProfessor. The initiative aimed to provide all B.Com students with apractical understanding of Goods and Service tax nuances. The session commencedwith an overview of the GST framework, emphasizing the critical role ofaccurate and timely return filing for businesses to ensure compliance and avoidpenalties. Mr. Goenka expertly guided students through the various types of GSTreturns, the step-by-step online filing process, and the essential componentsinvolved, such as ‘Input Tax Credit and Tax Liability’calculation.

A significant focus of the activity was to understand the necessity ofGST filing skills for final year commerce graduates entering the professionalarena. In the current Indian tax landscape, businesses highly value candidatesproficient in GST compliance, making this skill a crucial asset for enhancedemployability and career advancement. The session highlighted how practicalknowledge of GST return filing equips graduates to contribute meaningfully topotential employers from the outset, opening doors to diverse roles inaccounting, finance, and taxation. Furthermore, for aspiring entrepreneurs,understanding GST compliance is vital for managing their ventures effectively.

The session also covered the importance of meticulous record-keepingfor seamless GST return filing and provided updates on the latest changes inGST regulations. Mr. Goenka informed the students about recent provisions,including the impending rule regarding the time-barring of GST return filingbeyond three years from the due date, effective from July 2025. Practicalexamples were utilized to make the concepts more accessible, followed by aninteractive question and answer session where students clarified their doubts.

The Departmentalactivity on “The Nuances of Goods and Service Tax (GST) Return Filing”witnessed a valuable endeavor in equipping commerce students withessential practical skills relevant to the current Indian tax system. Byemphasizing the significance of GST return filing for final year graduates andproviding a comprehensive overview of the processes involved, The sessionconcluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Neetu Gupta. Many students attended in theactivity were benefitted and made this activity a success. Mr. VaibhavShrivastava, Head of the Department congratulated Mr. Akash Goenka for hisdelivery of expertism. He also acknowledged all other faculty members preset inthe session and complimented for the successful execution of the activity.
